Learning to Succeed

Learning to Succeed (LETOS) is an adult education program that offers English as a second language. Every year, LETOS serves an average of 300 students, ranging from ages 18 to 80. We offer a variety of classes of different levels in the morning and evening.

Unlike traditional English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, this program uses language skills as a tool to teach immigrants practical skills such as how to do their tax returns, use a computer, register to vote, and take public transportation. Facilitators use field trips to expose immigrants to museums, libraries, aldermanic proceedings and neighborhood events. In summary, (LETOS) helps immigrant adults acclimate to their new surroundings and culture, and empower them to participate in United States society. In addition to English classes, UP also offers Mejorando Escritura y Lectura (MELE) for community members who do not know how to read or write in their native language (Spanish).

Facilitators and peer tutors assist participants in becoming literate in Spanish, and transitioning to English language classes. With LETOS, we believe that your success is more certain.
